About the Artist
Janene Grende was born and raised in Lewiston, Idaho, and moved north to Sandpoint in 1974. She paints in gouache (rhymes with wash), a medium of watercolor-type pigments that is more opaque than traditional watercolor. She finds inspiration for her artwork in the natural world around her. "Everywhere you look in the area that surrounds my home is an inspiration-from the grandeur of the mountains and lakes to the little gems of mossy rocks and weathered fence posts," Janene says. These intimate details of nature and wildlife images are reflected in her paintings.
Janene's work rewards her with many accolades. She was twice chosen as Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Artist of the Quarter, with three of her creations used as companion prints for the Foundation's banquets. She was named Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year for Idaho-the first woman to win this honor and the first person to win it twice-and was the Washington State Sponsor Print Artist. Her work has been commissioned for Leanin' Tree Cards and the Bradford Exchange. She also creates artwork for images on plates, ornaments and sculptures. She regularly attends the Fall Festival Show in Lake City, Minnesota, at Wild Wings Headquarters, showing many paintings in the Wild Wings' Originals Catalog and at Wild Wings Galleries nationally. She was invited to show two of her originals at the American Academy of Equine Artists in September 2002, at the Kentucky Horse Park.
